| With the start of 2008, some exciting changes have happened here at Literacy Austin. What: Literacy Austin is now part of LifeWorks! Why: Literacy Austin has grown tremendously during the last few years. The organization wants to make that growth sustainable and to grow services. LifeWorks is one of Austin’s leading non-profit organizations and can provide both a wide range of services and the infrastructure to support growth in coming years. Who is LifeWorks: LifeWorks’ mission is to transition youth and families from crisis to safety and success. It is the only social service organization in Austin to offer a comprehensive network of support to youth and families. It operates 13 programs, including Youth and Adult Counseling, Resolution Counseling, and GED, Teen Parent Services, Emergency Shelter for Runaway and Homeless Youth, Kids’ Exchange, Job-training program and Foster Care Transitional Services. When: The merger was effective January 1, 2008. What Will Change: Little changes on January 1. Literacy Austin's name, location, phone number, tutors and schedules will remain the same. LifeWorks honors confidentiality in the same way as Literacy Austin and will continue to provide services regardless of immigration status. Questions: Contact either Literacy Austin at 478-7323 or LifeWorks at 735-2400. We value you as a member of our literacy community and want to assure you that both organizations have been hard at work to ensure the success of this merger. We look forward to working with you.
